In our Elementary school, all art education is approached from a multicultural point of view. By using a culture as the stepping stone for introducing art, the children are exposed to elements of life which they may have never before experienced. We do this by taking a pretend "trip" to the culture (or geographic location) by using various forms of multimedia to communicate the most information about the people we are visiting. Once we have learned about the people of the culture and their lifestyles, we venture into the art they create. From here, we use the skills appropriate to our elementary art curriculum and develop an art project. Once the project is created, we digitize the art work by taking a digital picture of the art piece. This is sent to the computer class for integration into our portfolios.

This information gained on our multicultural trips fosters a deeper respect and interest in cultures other than our own.
