The View from My Lens: Understanding How Culture Affects Teaching and Learning

Description:

Before we can truly understand others, we must understand ourselves and our own cultural lens. This workshop provides discussion and activities on how you see yourself and others culturally. We’ll discuss the metaphor of “windows and mirrors” to explain the ways children experience other cultures and see their own culture reflected through books they read. Finally, we’ll talk about ways to bring more enriching and culturally relevant literature and ELA activities back to your classroom.

The View from My Lens: Understanding How Culture Affects Teaching and Learning workshop will be presented by Dr. Meg White
Dr. Meg White is an Associate Professor of Education at Stockton University. Her work centers around teaching pre-service teachers to work effectively in urban environments.
