First-I give the students-a-series, of numbers The students are to find the mean, median, and mode of those numbers. After verifying understanding, I ask the students which career they are interested-in pursuing. Once we agree-on a common career it is off to the Internet.

The students see a list of jobs available-in their career. I like to separate the salaries into two groups. The first group is high school graduates
( Ed: education 12 years or less). The second-group is college (Ed. education greater than 12 year.).

Many of the jobs state that the salary is not provided. You can choose to ignore them or click on the box to the right The job description has the salary. I also explain that these are real jobs available today !

Once the students-have their salaries, the calculate the mean median and mode for each education group. I ask questions such as what is the average salary in that field and what-does the. mode and, median represent?

Finally I ask the students to calculate the life time salaries of each education group over 40-years. While salaries tend to go up, it is safe to assume that the difference. between the high school education and a college degree will still exist. Once we calculate the difference I ask the students " Is a college education worth the difference.
