Summary of Lesson 1

These lesson plans were designed to be taught to students in the third and fourth grades. The primary objectives of the lessons is to give students guided practice in conducting research on the Internet, as well as, to teach students how to create a Microsoft Power Point presentation.

The students will work independently in the computer lab. The project will require eight forty minute instructional periods to be completed. Students will use the Internet to facilitate their research about various organisms living in the ocean.

They will use a teacher created worksheet to guide their research on the Internet. Upon completing their research, students will be taught how to use Microsoft PowerPoint. They will then transform their research into a Microsoft Power Point presentation. Students will use a large screen display device to present their individual Power Point slide shows to the class.

Additional comments and suggestions

This lesson addresses the Cross-Content Workplace Readiness Standards as they are outlined in the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. In this lesson students at the third and fourth grade level are being taught to use Microsoft Power Point, an application that has the potential to be very useful to them in the workplace. Learning Microsoft Power Point was also a creative endeavor for the students. They enjoyed creating and presenting their slide shows.
