This web site is a work in progress. The information appearing here is being researched and written by students taking the course “Art of New Jersey,” taught by Professor Kate Nearpass Ogden, at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. Our first web entries were researched and written in the fall of 2003, but the students’ work is ongoing. All entries are being edited and – to the extent possible
checked for accuracy.

Most of the artists indexed here lived or at least worked in the Garden State, and whenever possible we have used New Jersey subjects as illustrations. The site will eventually include paintings, sculpture, architecture, prints and drawings, photography, film, and “new forms” of
art. The last category is intended to include a variety of 20th and 21st century art forms, from happenings and performance art to computer-generated imagery.

The site is organized by medium, century, and artist, for example:

  • 18th Century
    • Charles Willson Peal
