LUCY GETS A MAKEOVER
FOR SPRING
Date: Wednesday,
May 22, 2002
Section: Atlantic County COMMUNITY extra
Edition: Atlantic

CAPTION:
Joe DeMarino gets an elephant's eye view from atop the 65-foot-high
monument as he rolls a fresh coat of paint onto the head of Lucy the Elephant
in Margate..
She's more than 120
years old, so it's no wonder that one of Atlantic
County's most famous landmarks, Margate's Lucy the Elephant, might need
a
few touch-ups now and then.
Workers from Ashley Painting, of Ventnor, have been on the job, giving
the
old girl a fresh look.
And while they were at it, they gave her a manicure, too.
Two years ago, Lucy's toenails had been playfully repainted, each in a
different bold primary color
This year, the toenails were returned to their original basic black,
according to painting company owner Gregory Scalia, who said the paint
job
should be finished by the end of this week.
